The Warriors wrapped up the season with a match up against the reigning champions, Pine Island Pirates. The Warriors were outplayed, and failed to get the bats going, as the took the Loss, drop to 3-2. with a share of 2nd place.
The usually stout Warrior pitching staff struggled to contain the Pirates' bats in this one, as they accumulated 16 hits, scoring 11 runs on the day. Pitcher Brian McClurg started the game, but knocked around for 7 runs, (5 earned) on 12 hits, as the Pirate bats were hot. He did come away with an impressive 6 K's in 5 IP. Austin Baukol relieved Brian in the 6th, pitched an inning and a 1/3, striking out 2 batters, while 4 runs were given up, in an unusual appearance for the usual stout Baukol. Chris Weiseman finished the game, in dominating fashion, striking out 3 batters in a no-hit 2-2/3 innings pitched. His ERA no sits at a near sub 1.00.
The 'purple bats' were struggling to find any holes, mustering a lousy 6 hits and pushing across a single run. Dan Fitzsimmons had the lone Warrior RBI, scoring Nick Nelson on a single. Joe Blommel, Dan Fitzsimmons, Tim Busch, Shane Howard, Brian McClurg, and Nick Nelson all had singles in the game. Rob Meeks, making his season debut had 2 K's. Tim Busch, Kanen Hudson, and Nick Vreeman also joined the strikeout club this week.
Playoffs begin next week (8/16) as the 4 seed Warriors face off against the 5 seed Rampage. Look to make a deep playoff run.
